St. Peter’s Mission Statement

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Bridgton, is a congregation that meets to worship God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It is a place where everyone is welcome. We find our strength in the Eucharist. We pray that we may use our time, talent and resources for the benefit of our community. We gather to seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to uphold and support each other and to reach out in service to others.

Timely News

Free Concert on July 30th at 7:30PM

Anglican Church Music in Cathedrals and Small Churches: Contrasts in Time and Space, will be the subject of a workshop and performance by Dr. Douglas Major at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bridgton on July 30 at 7:30 p.m. Beginning with Church music of the sixteenth century, Dr. Major will describe and play some of the characteristic sounds of Anglican (Episcopal) worship as it has evolved from then until now, including some of his own compositions. Because St. Peter’s Church does not yet have an organ in place, Dr. Major has planned to use a piano in the usual choir rehearsal setting.

Former Organist and Choirmaster at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C.,
Dr. Major is an internationally recognized solo artist, accompanist and composer.  He has toured North America, Europe and the Far East and has played with many great musicians including Ravi Shankar, Leonard Bernstein, Mistislav Rostropovich, Dave Brubeck, Aretha Franklin, Yo Yo Ma and Wynton Marsalis. Two of Dr. Major’s recent compositions include Love Poem to God, commissioned by the American Guild of Organists and Requiem Mass in C Minor for choir, soloists, organ and strings which premiered in Atlanta in 2005. Dr. Major currently serves as Music Director at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Marblehead, Massachusetts.

The program featuring Dr. Major is the first in a series of public concerts and other musical events being planned by St. Peter’s Episcopal Church as part of the celebration of life in its new building at 42 Sweden Road.  A free-will offering will be taken to help defray expenses.
