On Tuesday, August 11, St. Peter's M&Ms met at Sue Miley's mother's cottage on Highland Lake. It was a beautiful start to the day with Blueberry Muffins and Scones and Coffee, Earl Grey Tea, Iced Tea, and Lemonade.
Our conversation was eclectic as always: from psalms and poems and prayers to vacations and future plans and diocesan activities and so much more.
Thank you to Sue for sharing your mother's cottage with us and the story of Stoneleigh, and later taking us for a walk on the grounds. And thank you to Norm for joining us to help Sue serve and take part in the conversation.
For those who don't know, we selected this name a few months ago because we felt it reflected who we are as a group.
Martha and Mary represent two complementary roles of Christian life: active service and contemplative devotion. Martha is characterized by her practical hospitality and hard work (our hostess of the month), while Mary is celebrated for sitting at Jesus' feet to listen and learn (something we all do each time we gather).
Opening Prayer:
As we gather for this time together in community,
May a Spirit of comfort ease the burdens of our day;
May a Spirit of peace descend upon us;
May a Spirit of love open our listening hearts; May we be filled by a Spirit of gratitude for this time of communion;
May we be filled by a Spirit of appreciation for all who are here and for those who are absent. Amen.
Closing Prayer:
Hostess: Let us give voice to the gratitude and love that rests within our hearts.
All: Generous God, we thank you for bringing us together in this circle for friendship and fellowship.
Hostess: Let us pray for a safe trip home.
All: O God, you who watch over us by day and by night, keep us safe from harm. Guide us to our homes with care and love. Be a bright light in our darkness. Grant us rest in the midst of our hectic lives. Bless us; bless those we love; bless especially those in pain and loneliness. Amen.
